You can arrange and organize your own fund raising event to assist the Charity. We would be happy to give you some suggestions, we can e-mail a sponsorship form for you to print and a letter from us confirming that you are fundraising for GLOVE.

There are a number of ways everyone can help this project, whether it be financial or practical, for instance:

DONATIONS

Donations can be in the form of financial or material help.

In The Gambia:  Both financial and ‘material’ help can be given to Jackie, the founder and Chairman of GLOVE when visiting The Gambia.  If planning a holiday there why not email to ask if there is anything that would be of particular benefit to the village.  Anything that you could spare would be welcome but how much better it would be if it was something the village has been waiting for.

In the UK:   GLOVE  has a bank account with the HSBC.  You can transfer money direct to the GLOVE Project Account at Sort Code 40-16-05 : Account Number 71793144.  Where possible let us know if you have a specific reason for the donation, eg school fees, medicines etc because we would prefer your money to go where you want it to go; alternatively you can contact us via e-mail address on the contact us page of the website.

If you have any material donations but can’t take them yourself, e-mail GLOVE and if we can help get them to the village, we will.

SPONSORSHIP

Education:

To get a uniform, books, pens etc it costs from £75 per child

Sponsorship could be in the form of an annual amount or monthly Standing Orders.

Any excess funding accrued due to monthly payments would go towards exam costs.

Please note there is no set length for sponsorship: it can be for as long or as short a period as you want.  There is absolutely no ‘hard sell’ or pressure imposed.

Alternatively you can ‘Get Sponsored’ by running, swimming, cycling or some other activity that you are good at, or hold ‘Sponsored Events’ such as dinners, BBQs, discos etc.  These do not have to be big affairs; small friendly in house parties are just as valuable for the funds that they bring in.  Everything, no matter how small it may seem to you, means a great deal to Sam Mbollet.

Practical help

Have a few days to spare and don’t know what to do?  Student holiday, gap year, sabbatical?  Why not contact GLOVE to see if there’s anything you can do to help from labouring and making bricks, to building, painting or something more challenging and technical like help with a water supply, irrigation systems, solar pumps, electricity, lavatories, showers.

There’s so much to do and every little bit helps.

FRIENDS

Become a ‘Friend of Sam Mbollet'.  Sam Mbollet has no crafts; they are a village of farmers and very dependent on the summer rains in order to grow crops to last the year.  This is one of the reasons they are so very poor.  Why not help them to become proficient in other skills.  Skills that use relatively modest tools and materials that can be taught eg batik (cloth/wax/paint); making cards; macramé; mobiles; wind chimes; painting stones.  Help them to make anything that it is possible to use or sell, whether sold locally or to tourists or even through GLOVE.

Are you a nursery, school?  Do you have any items that are no longer of use to you but could be of use to children/a school in Sam Mbollet

Alternatively teach them ways to maximise the rainy season; teach them bee keeping and what to do with the by products as well as the honey.  Teaching new skills of a practical nature is a very positive way to help.  Have no doubt this will not be easy but what’s more fun than a challenge!

There are so many ways we, as individuals can help, although it may not be immediately apparent how.  All you have to do is tell us what you propose.  We will see if it’s feasible and check with the village Chief and Elders.  If we get the nod, all that’s left for you to do is ‘get yourself to The Gambia’.

Become a member of GLOVE for an annual cost of £20.00
