Information on Needs.

Beside the ongoing priority of getting the children of SAM MBOLLET a basic education at the very least, the projects below are at the top of the priority list:

A MASSIVE ACHEIVEMENT (OCT 08) HAS BEEN IN ABLE TO PROVIDE THE WOMEN OF THE VILLAGE THEIR OWN MILLING MACHINE. TAKING AWAY A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF DAILY DRUDGERY FROM THEM SO FACILITATING THEIR BEING ABLE TO UNDERTAKE OTHER SMALL SCALE ENTERPRISING TASKS. A HUGE THANK YOU TO LINDA & ROGER COPSAN FOR THEIR FUNDRAISING ENDEAVOURS MAKING THIS POSSIBLE TOPPED UP WITH FUNDS FROM ESTHER SHORT VIA HER PROFESIONAL SLIMMING CLASSES.

Safe drinking water & sanitisation: This is now underway thanks to the kind donations received has purchased a new geared rope pump for the village central well. We will be looking at upgrading and cleaning this well before closing it with a lid and having the rope pump fitted. This will ensure the villagers have a means of obtaining clean safe drinking water. Gary & Gills fund raising monies (Nov 08) will hopefully be sufficient to purchase a 4000 litre water tank and have a water tower built sited at the central well with a view of upgrading the drinking water system to allow several stand pipes to be fitted and gravity fed from this water tank at a future datewhen funds allow. Bernadette, Karen and their 'Nerja' crew have raised funds to allow the sinking of a new concrete lined well and geared rope pump at another strategic point in the village to facilitate further safe drinking water. Further funds will be needed to add the necessary water tower, tank and stand pipes. Approx cost £1000. A third concrete lined well, pump, water tower, tank and stand pipes are needed for the village to complete the minimum of safe drinking water for the seven hundred residents of the village. Approx cost £2500.

Full irrigation for the GLOVE Farm, adding further irrigation systems incl water tower and 2000 liter water tanks as we go. A geared rope pump for the 2nd well already dug so they can access the water; costs D12000 for pump, D1500 instalation, D2500 concrete for apron and surrounding area. A toilet  for the farm and a store on the farm for wheel barrows, spades, forks etc as they are donated.

Chain link fencing for the GLOVE Farm.

Packets of Corrugate for roofing: approx £35.00 per pack

GLOVE Poultry Farm: Newman College's donations will hopefully be sufficient to build the foundations for this. This poultry farm is a crucial need as will hopefully supply the villagers with meat & eggs with sufficient surplus to sell thus creating a further small scale enterprise in line with our aim of the village attaining self sufficiency. Approx cost £2500.

Fertiliser Manufacture: we need expert help, assistance and significant funds to acheive this. It's need is high as currently there is not any fertiliser available within The Gambia, such production will serve to assist this village & many others to.

Other urgent needs are:

Essential First Aid Medical supplies.  This is an ongoing need.

To build a Guest Round House for visitors/helpers within the village who assist on the varying projects.  This remains an objective but will not be built at the expense of other, more pressing, village requirments.  As with everything else it will be done in liaison with the Sam Mbollet Village Committee.

Any help with achieving the goals that we have set will mean a great deal to the villagers of SAM MBOLLET.
