Sunkary has hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and as a result he has an enlarged head and is unable to walk.

He is a happy little boy who lives with his parents and 3 siblings in absolute poverty. His father is the main carer as his mother, who is quite frail, is unable to lift Sunkary. Their home is a shack that does not even have a toilet or shower.

Sunkary will certainly DIE without life saving brain surgery which can not be undertaken in Africa because of the the lack of surgical skills and equipment and also because of the massive risk of post-operative infection.

WANTED

Hospital & Surgeons

Updated 15th February 2012

We are desparately seeking a hospital and surgeons who can perform the life saving surgery Sunkary requires. If you may be able to help or know any one who may then please Contact Us.

We have just succeded in getting a sponsor for Sunkary to go to nursery school - thank you Gail!. We are hoping he will start school in the next couple of weeks at a cost of £25 per month. We have got a good young woman to be his personal carer at school so it's looking very hopeful.

Sunkary is needing a constant supply of peadiatric Ibrufen and paracetomol as he is in constant pain with headaches due to his health condition. This is obviously a drain on our funds as its difficult to find them here in Gambia and when we can find them they are very expensive.

So right now we are spending almost £20 per month to keep him pain and we do need additional funds for that although Gail is sending us a small box of gifts out for the family and has said she will include some of this medicine for Sunkary.

His elder sister, Aminetta, is in school and his younger sister, Isatou, should be in school as she is six in June.

Help the family survive

We need to continue to assist the family in keeping Sunkary well nourished and healthy now and after his surgery. The family is desperately poor and although the father works, a sack of rice is his whole month's salary leaving nothing for anything else.

A bag of rice lasts approximately one month and costs £25-30. Can you help?
