Sam Mbollet

In the summer of 2009 our Trustees decided it was time to move our focus onto Cheesay, our 2nd project village. GLOVE will remain involved with Sam Mbollet but in a monitoring role rather than a giving one.
As Sam Mbollet has a number of projects running the village is now able to be self sufficient. As a result the villagers themselves will manage their projects but with GLOVE in the background should they need essential support.
GLOVE has achieved the following in Sam Mbollet:
-
Two new wells and two wells upgraded and fitted with geared rope pumps so now the village has safe and sufficient drinking water
-
GLOVE Farm with its gravity fed irrigation system and massive area all fenced with barbed wire to keep animals out
-
Community Centre Bantaba where gatherings and meetings can take place
-
A wonderful big nursery school thanks to our Dutch partners
-
A milling machine
-
Women trained and operating their own businesses
-
Donkeys sponsored
-
Interest free loans for fertiliser
-
Over 100 children have received child sponsorship
-
Several full football kits including football boots
-
Medicines for everyone
-
Over 158 Mosquito nets so that every bed space now has a net
-
A massive amount of clothes and shoes for every man, woman and child within the village
-
Solar lamps and torches as well as blankets and other gifts
-
Masses of school matrials and toys
- Four donkeys donated along with three carts, crucial for farm traction and transportation.
We will continue to work alongside our American engineer partners on work to ensure safe drinking water and with volunteer medical professionals working in the villages.
I think everyone will agree tha our first project village has done very well indeed and we remain hopeful that our dear friends from EWB USA will return one day to upscale the water system so that the village can have stand taps. Although this is far from an urgent need it would be nice to see this completed.
Cheesay
Our second project village was identified during the later half of 2009 based upon criteria which we have laid down as an organisation. Cheesay is a small village of some 350 inhabitants and has 2 other small villages within a 2km radius. The hope is that 3 small villages may in fact benefit from the developments we put into Cheesay.

This is a very poor village indeed which has had no developmental input previously. They are drinking contaminated water and in fact the current wells do not have sufficient water to meet the needs of the villagers. There is one well with a hand pump and the other two local wells are still in use in spite of their collapsing walls.
There is a great deal to be done in the village of Cheesay and progress can only be made with the continued help of our supporters.
